WorksDealership software
CarTracked
Sales tracking software for car dealerships, built up over many years. I’m moving it to a modern front end one screen at a time, so dealerships keep working while it improves.

The project
One screen at a time, with the old system running the whole way
Stop 01
The situation
CarTracked helps dealerships track every car sold, the profit on each deal, and how each salesperson is doing. It has been built and rebuilt over many years, so some parts are old and some are new.
Stop 02
Modernising without a shutdown
Rewriting everything at once would have meant months with no new features. Instead, new screens replace old ones one at a time, and each old page keeps working until its replacement is ready.
Stop 03
Under the hood
Two older back-end services, scheduled jobs that email reports, and a new Next.js front end that reads from the main service’s API.
Stop 04
Working in it
With a system this old, the job is to improve it without breaking what works. The useful decisions are which screen to move next, and what to leave alone.
You can’t make good decisions off of bad data
“CarTracked helps us track our sales more effectively and makes “Save a deal” meetings a breeze. The delivery calendar ensures we never miss a customer delivery, which has improved our survey scores.”
